What is the meaning of Limited Lifetime Warranty ?

For the lifetime of the Media, its covered by warranty by manufacturer. Typically the useful lifetime of the media will be defined in years and number of read/write mounts. Refer to the vendor website for more details on warranty.

Can I use a newer LTO media in my old Tape drive?

No, There is no forward Compatibility. Which means Your can't use LTO-9 media (when its launched) in your LTO-8 tape drive. To use LTO-9 Media you would have to upgrade your tape drive to LTO-9 tape drive.

Can I use my old Media in new tape drive ?

Yes, LTO Drive is backward compatible to 2 previous generations. Each New LTO tape drive is Read/Write compatible to the previous generation and Read-only Compatible to the generation before that. For Example LTO- 7 tape drive is RW compatible to LTO-6 and Read-Only LTO-5. This way you know that any old media you have ( upto 2 prior generations) is also compatible. The only Exception is LTO-8 Drive which is not compatible with LTO-6.

Can I use LTO-6 Tape Media in my LTO-8 drive? Why is the LTO-8 drive not backward compatible with 2 previous Gens?

LTO-8 tape drive is the only tape drive which is not compatible with 2 previous generations. However, it has a special functionality - it can format your LTO-7 Media as a 50% high capacity LTO-7 type M media

    What is LTO-7 type M Media ?

LTO-8 tape drive can Format a previously unused LTO-7 media as LTO-7 type M media. The advantage is that instead of 6TB native capacity, it would yield 9TB compressed capacity. This media however is only writable in LTO-8 tape drive.

That's 50% more capacity for LTO-7 media at the same price.

Can you give me pre-labelled custom Labels for LTO tapes ?

Yes, there are 3 ways to obtain Barcode LTO labels

    1. You can buy an HP LTO Label pack, which has 100 data + 10 cleaning labels. They are non customized.
    2. We can get you Customized barcode labels within a day ( Say AUH001L8 to AUH099L8).
    3. We can get you an HP Prelabelled tape which is labeled by HP. Lead time on these tapes is typically 7-10 days.

What is the difference between LTO tapes using Metal Particle (MP) and Barium Ferrite (BaFe) ?

All the older Generation LTO tapes use Metal Particle technology. This technology has limitations in how densely you can pack data on a single tape.
Starting LTO-6 almost all the manufacturers shifted to BaFe to achieve higher density. HP continued to offer both MP and BaFe Variants on LTO-6
LTO-7 onwards all the tapes are BaFe.  LTO-6 tapes are the only generation available either as BaFe or as MP from HP. Both BaFe and MP have the same specifications and will work seamlessly in the LTO-6 drive.
